Holy SH*T!!

Senate Majority leader Bill Frist now endorses legislation that would expand federally funded embryonic stem cell research.

WOW!!!!!

Go FRIST!!!

I think that this is the first time that I agree with Sen. Frist. It is about time that Frist (who is a physician) came around to supporting stem cell research. It holds so much promise to heal many diseases and could prove to be a positive and revolutionary step by humanity. We are presented with these blank stem cells (perhaps by God if you believe in God) as an answer to heal terminal illnesses and crippling injuries. We should embrace this opportunity to help heal human life with embryos that will be destroyed anyway.

I really am surprised that more "pro-lifers" do not support stem cell research funding. Stem cell research is in support of life and healing sickness and disease. It is using embryos that would otherwise be destroyed to help improve life. Should not helping improve the quality of life be apart of a "pro-life" stance? I think that it only makes sense that it should.

If you agree with stem cell research then I would urge you to send a quick note to Senator Frist and thank him for standing up for what is right on this issue.

Still no update on whether or not AIDS transmissible by tears.

My cynical theory is that Frist realized that he torpedoed his chances for the GOP nomination over the filibuster deal, so now he’s testing the winds by drifting toward the middle, and looking to see if he can make inroads with the McCain branch of the party. Then again, maybe, just maybe, he stopped being an ideologue for 5 minutes, and voted his conscience.

paolo: Yeah, I'm not too sure about his intentions either but I'm just glad that he's voting correctly on this issue. This is such and important issue that we need all the votes we can get.

I absolutely agree. I know of at least two people suffering from forms of cancer that could potentially greatly aided by research in this area.

Sounds like a big flip flop to me. I wonder if he made his diagnosis over a video tape.

From what I understand, Frist's position is now exactly what he proclaimed in a speech on the senate floor prior to Bush setting out his stem-cell polity in ~2001.

So I think he has not flip-flopped. He supported Bush's position as a loyal Republican, and with the hope that the limitted lines of stem cells might be sufficient. Now, perhaps fully as a matter of humanity [As James points out he is a physician first!], he comes out in opposition to the President.

There is no way I would want Frist for Pres in '08, but I agree with James here: Go FRIST!!!

I also hold out hope that stell cell research will lead to better medications for those of us with a chemical imbalance.
