GOI: The Repubican dominated House and Senate have both rejected an independent commission to investigate the failures of the federal government in the wake of the Katrina disaster. The two bodies choosing rather to go with a commission amongst within the House Rules Committee.
Democrats are furious:
They note that the Katrina panel will have an 11-9 Republican majority, which will give only Republicans the power to subpoena.
GOI: All of this despite the President saying that he "accepts" some responsibility with a big "IF." Also despite stating several times that he wants to get to the bottom of what went wrong!
Obviously he did not push his allies in the House and Senate to push for a true, independent commission that actually would have a better chance of finding what went wrong more then a Republican, partisan commission. My hunch of course is because he knows that he screwed up in dealing with the aftermath.
Like I say in the title, I smell a white wash of the responsibility of the Republican led federal government in the wake of Katrina.

I had somehow missed this in all the other news (like the media tripping over themselves to report Bush's inadequate speech). I can't believe this, but I suppose it should. It will always come down to politics with these people. Always.
